The Inner Game of Tennis Comes to Life as Daily Performance Coach App Launches on August 20
Built on W. Timothy Gallwey's 50-year coaching philosophy, App has free and premium tiers available on App Store and Google Play
NEW YORK (August 20, 2026) — W. Timothy Gallwey's The Inner Game of Tennis has been sitting in lockers and on bedside tables for half a century. Steve Kerr called it his Bible in the NBA. Pete Carroll passes chapters to players who need it. Tom Brady cited it. Bill Gates named it one of the best books he has ever read on competition and excellence.
Now, for the first time, the methodology has a daily coaching companion, The Inner Game App launching on August 20, 2026.
Entrepreneur and former tennis pro Ryan Sweeney (CEO), together with co-founders Alexandre Le Moëligou (Chief Product Officer) and Todd Blumberg (Chief Creative Officer), has launched the first official digital extension of Gallwey's Inner Game framework, built directly on his 50-year coaching archive.
“The lessons Gallwey imparts in his book transcend tennis and all sport,” Sweeney said. “Every sports psychologist and mental coach since 1974 has built on his work. We wanted to make that coaching available to anyone with a moment that matters.”
“I read a great book, recommended by Phil Jackson, called The Inner Game of Tennis, and it became my Bible in the NBA. I would read it every year. It's a book about the mind-body connection and how to let yourself go.” — Steve Kerr, Head Coach, Golden State Warriors
Where other wellness apps are designed to help users step away from pressure, The Inner Game App is built to help them perform under it — which is the only place performance ever actually happens. The app works whether you have a coach or not. For the athlete without one, it fills that gap. For the athlete who has one, it becomes the daily practice between sessions. For coaches, it is a tool they can put directly in their athletes' hands for the moments they cannot be there themselves.
Bob Bowman, who coached Michael Phelps to 23 Olympic gold medals in the most decorated coaching career in Olympic history, has joined as an advisor and will lead the first Inner Game course available to paid subscribers.
The Inner Game of Tennis is in the middle of a cultural resurgence. A half-century after its first publication, the book remains the No. 1 bestseller in Sports Psychology on Amazon, its 50th anniversary edition — with an introduction by Bill Gates and a foreword by Pete Carroll — currently selling at ten times its already strong baseline. The app arrives to audiences that are already there.
The Inner Game podcast will launch on October 1, 2026, with a debut episode featuring Pete Carroll. The Inner Game App is available free and by premium subscription on the App Store and Google Play. For more information visit www.theinnergame.app.
